Time to kick into creative mode

Posted in Art at 12:59 pm by Fletcher

In the photo below you’ll see my beloved Coke machine (circa 1951, Vendo 39 model) in which I store my paints. Well, the past months haven’t been to kind to the painting endeavor and I totally skipped out on a session last weekend. Well, in order to amend that situation, I opened ‘er up to take stock of what I need, turpentine, rags, and whatnot and when I did, it hit me…

Linseed oil. Ye gods I love that smell. The rich earthy aroma, mixed with the tang of turps simply transports me to another time and place. I could be 14 again- experiencing oil paint for the 1st time, I could be back in ancient Venice, studying with the Renaissance masters, back in the early 60’s with the Beat Generation (to whom I feel a kindred spirit), or 16 when I first experienced the subtle eroticism of having a girlfriend pose nude for me.  Time to get reacquainted with an old friend. P.S. I know several readers will ask about the plants I keep, they are l-r: Basil, an orange tree, an avocado tree, parsley and other spices in the box and catnip on top of the Coke machine.

We all need this…

Coolest thing on TV yet:

Survivorman - Discovery channel has my complete attention with this guy. Dump him off in some remote, desolate area with a penknife, 2 video cameras, and the clothes on his back- to survive for a week.

Anyone who has spent any time with me will tell you that this guy embodies everything that I admire (and aspire to) ingenuity, determination, adaptive creativity, and a good knowledge of how one can adapt to different situations. Plus its just damn cool to know how to make a fire without any matches or lighters, or just what you can pick up off the forest floor and eat.

Anyway, in keeping with my inner ‘Mountain Man’ or just cause its so damn cold, I think I’m growing a beard.

Not ZZ Top mind you, more along the lines of GI Joe.

Edging to 5000

Posted in Art at 11:19 pm by Fletcher

Getting there… up to 4700+ hits on the ol’ website. For those who are uninitiated:

http://www.fletcherstudios.net/

is the url, drop in, take a look, leave feedback, tell yer well connected friends, get me work - then beers for everyone.

Next months goal: double the amount of hits in less than half the time…

Came across this painter during my morning check of favorite sites:

http://williamwray.com/

Wow, is all I can say- this artist used to work on ‘Ren and Stimpy’ - one of my favorite cartoons of all time; and his use of light is reminiscent of Edward Hopper, one of my favorite artists of all time.

And of course; Lloyd Dobler lives on:

Cool Stuff

Coolest free download of the week: is a Beatles / Beastie boys mash-up that, if your a fan of either or both- it its worth a listen. Or its a gimmick. Give a listen here: http://www.djbc.net/beastles/

What I’m listening to right now: Lemon Jelly “The Staunton Lick” (for when I’m in a good mood) or NIN “Ripe With Decay” (for when I’m not)

Whats good: Korean Noodles- hey at a buck twenty-five a pop, its the cheapest NYC dinner availble. (and for those who will ask: I take mine with a egg cracked in it and a side of kimchee, whenever possible)

Whats cool: Editing in the Doom 3 engine, I get to fuck around in art, photoshop, 3d animation and video games, all at once.

Find the Hidden City

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:06 am by Fletcher

I often roam around the city with camera in hand, looking for new and different things, texture maps for the video game, or just weird shit.

I came across this gem the other day:hideen.jpg

’Find the Hidden City’ - I like that, its almost as if there is a door somewhere, to some vague undisclosed part of the metropolis- where beers are cheap and the women are plentiful. Or maybe they do human sacrafices there…
