Soft Launching

Booper jump
Hooray!

Well, it was either that or The Chambers Bros. ‘The Time Has Come Today’

Because of life, complications and the never ending parade of things getting in the way of making games – I’ve decided to stop puttering around and and get something out there. I feel very much like Stephen King when he wrote about the Gunslinger:

a sort of hush fell over my previously busy creative life – not a writer’s block, but a sense that it was time to stop goofing around with a pick and shovel and get behind the controls of one big great God a’mighty steamshovel, a sense that it was time to try and dig something big out of the sand, even if the effort turned out to be an abysmal failure.

And that drive, that urge to have it set free became too great – so I put my ‘lil mobile game into soft release. From Unity’s own website:

What is a soft launch?

A soft launch refers to the common strategy of releasing a product ahead of its scheduled launch with little or no marketing push. Unlike full launches, soft launches are usually planned as “rehearsals” for a full launch

I felt the problems with this year – the chaos of having our basement waterproofed, my in-laws having health issues and the nagging remembrance of covid and how it set back so many things got me to a point where I had to act. To stop letting every complication push back my desire to make and release games, no matter how small.

So I fired up Mailchimp, fired off a email to my loyal fans and let them know that they could have first dibs on owning a Booper game. But then after that, I sent an email to my contacts in the old friends and family list, and then realized I had to make a blog post about it.
